Niels's interest in process optimization began early, working in his father's bulb nursery. After studying Industrial Engineering and Management at the University of Twente, he quickly began his career as a consultant. He has extensive experience across a broad spectrum of supply chain management, ranging from inventory reduction projects to setting up and mechanizing warehouses and factories. Most of Niels's projects have been with trading companies in fashion, pharmaceuticals, technology, and agriculture
